Villa Portoselvaggio - Holiday home at Porto Selvaggio/Nardò

A holiday home in untouched nature

You would like to get to know Italy from a completely different perspective? You are not keen on crowds of people on the beaches, but prefer to enjoy pure nature? You want to see coasts where the rocks are washed by the crystal clear, turquoise colored sea?

Then you will feel completely at ease at Villa Portoselvaggio on the border of nature reserve Porto Selvaggio. The holiday home with its dazzling white façade is found in truly idyllic location, only ca. 700 m from the sea and with a few other houses in its vicinity. The over 5,000 m² property is lush with Mediterranean plants and offers enough space for you to recharge your batteries and to really unwind.

The small town of Nardò with its lovely historic centro storico, which is about 5 km off, used to be an important center as early as the times of the Messapii and the Romans. Nowadays, its impressive Baroque buildings and traditional Pizzica dance fascinate visitors from far and near.

The spacious holiday home

Villa Portoselvaggio offers lots of space for up to six persons: three double bedrooms (double bed each), two bathrooms (shower/WC/bidet each) and a very spacious living room with adjoining open kitchen. The house is sided by two roofed verandas.

Two of the bedrooms as well as the large living room offer direct access of the veranda. The living room includes a cozy sofa corner with TV and fireplace and an open, very appealingly designed kitchen (incl. refrigerator, gas stove, oven, drip coffee machine) with dining area. A washing machine is found in one of the bathrooms.

The veranda is a wonderful spot for relaxing after a long day at the beach, unwinding or simply enjoying your holiday read. If you love 'outdoor cooking', use the grill in the garden and let the day fade away while enjoying the warmth of the Italian evening sun.

The villa’s ample premises are quite picturesquely bordered by palm trees; a small well adorns the long driveway. Children in particular have enough space to roam and romp about. Parking is available on the fenced premises.

Every now and then in summer, Sig. Boccarella, the friendly, but discreet owner, stays at the small house which is located somewhat apart on the same property.

Surroundings, shopping and beaches

Shopping facilities as well as a pizzeria are about 1 km from the holiday home.

From Villa Portoselvaggio, it is a ca. 15-minute walk through pine woods down to the wild-romantic coast of the nature reserve. Here, on the west coast of the Salento, you find rocky and steep coastal sections as well as gently sloping sandy beaches. Nature reserve Portoselvaggio covers a wide coastal stretch of more than 400 ha between Torre dell’Alto and Torre di Uluzzo.

A stepped path takes you from the pine woods, past former trulli, to a lovely sandy bay. Diving goggles are an absolute must-have at this coastal section – crystal clear water in various shades of blue makes swimming and snorkeling an experience you never forget.

The two nearby, former fishing villages of S. Caterina (ca. 2 km) and S. Maria al Bagno (ca. 5 km) radiate a special kind of atmosphere.
S. Maria al Bagno can be traced back to the times of the Roman Empire for its thermal springs and harbor. There is a small sandy beach in the bay, where you can stop to go for a swim in the sea.
Marvelous late 19th century summer residences add a charming atmosphere to these places even today.

And then there is Gallipoli, located about 15 km south of Villa Portoselvaggio. The town, internationally known in the 17th and 18th centuries for its export of lamp oil, has got a fascinating, picturesque Old Town and is easy to recognize from afar due to its location on a headland stretching far out into the sea.
